How to Play Blackjack
Some will ask you to play “21”, others will say blackjack, but you cannot argue that it is one of the most popular games offered in casinos today. The main objective of the game is to beat the dealer. If the sum total of your cards is higher than what the dealer is holding without going over 21, you’re a winner.
The Value of the Cards
The card suits have no effect on the outcome of the game. Here are the card values for blackjack: 2 through 10 are counted by their numerical value, all face cards (Jack, Queen, and King) have a value of ten, and the Ace is either counted as one or 11. If you are holding an ace, your hand is considered “soft” because the value can change with each card dealt.
Types of Blackjack Games
Blackjack can be played with one, two, four or six decks of cards. In a single or double deck game, the dealer will hold the cards and deal them face down to the players. In a multi-deck game, the cards are dealt (out of a tray connected to a shuffling machine) face up and you’re not allowed to touch them.
Playing a Hand of Blackjack
After the cards are dealt, the player to the left of the dealer will begin play. This position on table is called first base. Your decision to continue playing will be based on what you’re holding and what the dealer is showing on the table. You will make a hand gesture to state whether or not you will continue in the game.
